Strataderm®

Physical scarring is much more than skin deep. Scarring is caused by a wound to the skin and during the healing process, your body produces collagen, resulting in a scar. Scars typically present as a raised, red area on the skin and may eventually flatten and lighten to a silvery-white hue. There are many types of scars, including mature, immature, keloid, contracture, hypertrophic, and atrophic (the “pitted” appearance of acne scars.)

Patients with scarring can experience intense emotional and psychological reactions that can erode their self-esteem or serve as a constant reminder of the event that caused the scar — whether it was surgery, a traumatic event, or even adolescent acne. The good news is that advances in skincare offer advanced solutions that can dramatically reduce the appearance of scarring. While no scar can be permanently erased, silicone products such as Strataderm® can dramatically improve the appearance of scars, when patients apply it according to their provider’s directions.

Strataderm® is a liquid silicone product that is applied topically to scars. It is odorless and colorless and while it is not directly absorbed by the skin, it dries after 2-3 minutes and only a small amount of Strataderm® is needed to treat your scar. It doesn’t include alcohol, fragrance, or parabens, and is suitable for all skin types and patients of all ages. This product can also be safely used by pregnant and breastfeeding women.
